ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
- The Midwest University community relies upon academic honesty, which requires that words and ideas that students present as their own truly represent their own work. PLAGIARISM, defined as using another writer¡¯s ideas or expressions without adequate acknowledgment, undermines the very foundation of Christian education, which is a quest based upon the TRUTH. Often plagiarism occurs because students do not understand the boundaries of legitimate scholarship. In brief, the honest use of research material requires that writers:
- Use quotation marks around (or indent) words of another writer and cite the sources of those words.
- Cite the source of paraphrased material, even when the paraphrase differs substantially from the original.
- Attribute to their source ideas of other writers.
- CHEATING is a purposeful deception in the preparation and/or submission of papers, assignments, and the completing of examinations, tests, or quizzes. Students caught cheating or plagiarizing or assisting another student to cheat or plagiarize on any assignment, exam, or quiz will receive an F for this course and may be subject for dismissal from the academic program.
